SYNOPSIS
As the German filmmaker goes on holiday in the small village of Ferrariade São João, Portugal is hit by one of the most devastating forest fires in its history. She flees with her family from the flames into the night while the inhabitants of the village decide to stay together despite the danger of fighting for their houses.
They all managed to survive. Appart from the 66 Portugeese which died in this forest fire.
The shock is deep. Ferraria de São João, one of many villages in the region, is surrounded by rapidly combustible eucalyptus forests.
Planted in monocultures, the trees are urgently needed by the booming paper industry and thus for the country's economy.
The 37 villagers are starting a joint project that will enable them to have a sustainable future while bringing them closer to each other - a village in the midst of globalization and climate change.
